  1. Connotative Meaning- A person’s emotional or personal response to a word.

  2. Denotative Meaning- the definition of a word found in a dictionary.

  3. Formal Language - the use of standard language found in the dictionary.

  4. Informal Language- a relaxed language style usually used among friends or in casual situations.

  5. Phone Scripts- predictable lines or scenarios that callers use for business purposes.

  6. Sexual Harassment- language or behavior that puts down a person because of his/her gender.

  7. Slang- a particularly informal language style that is unique to a group and is subject to frequent changes.

  8. Speech Community- communities in which people share norms about how to talk.

  9. Technical Language- specialized language used by people with expertise in a particular field.

  10. Verbal Communication - the spoken or written words one sends or receives when communicating.
