Introduction

Each lesson will have an introduction about the specific subject at hand. This will give the student a brief insight about what they are about to learn. The introduction serves its purpose as a brief overview of the lesson and sets the boundaries of what will will be covered.

Today's sample lesson will be about verbal communication:

Introduction to Verbal

Communication

In today’s society there are three forms of languages:

Informal, (slang and speech used among friends)

Formal, (standard English) and

Technical (specialized language usually dealing with specific field.)

Special speech communities are becoming influenced more often by the speaker’s gender and culture.

In reaction to negative connotations more attention is being given to the development of nonsexist language usage.

There are five basic verbal skills that are used everyday:

  1. Telling stories,
  2. Giving directions or descriptions,
  3. Handling phone calls,
  4. Asking questions, and
  5. Managing personal introductions.
